Anita stared at the box that was sitting on a pedestal in
front of them. She studied it, trying to figure out just what the hell it would
do. she walked around it before coming to stand just a little behind her
commander. She grinned as his Australian accent reached her ears. “I
don't get it. How is this friggin box going to win the war for us?â€Â
She took a few more steps so she was standing next to him and shrugged. “Honestly?
No damn idea. Maybe we're supposed to hit them with it.†she joked.
She rolled her eyes at his reply. “All good here.â€Â
She went back to staring at the thing, ignoring everyone else, when she was
blinded by lights. She quickly blinked the white blotches from her eyes as they
adjusted to the change. She caught a guy…carmine she thought his name was, bash
the things face in. “well that is one ugly creature, could be mistaken for
Kidd eight years ago†She muttered, nudging the unknown with her foot.
She felt eyes on her and looked up at Malus as he started
giving out orders and shook her head as he told her she was with him. “right.â€Â
She followed him silent, as he began walking off. Being the Rookie, it only
stood to reason that he’d want to keep an eye on her. She rolled her eyes. She
was no rook, she had seen her fair share of fights, when working for AD but she
understood the rankings well enough to keep her mouth shut. Besides this way,
there was less responsibility, less to have to think and worry about. She was a
grunt, plain and simple, a dog to who ever commanded her respect at the moment,
and to who ever paid, and she preferred it that way.
She glanced around, her head never turning but rather using
peripheral vision, as they walked through the tunnel. Most emotion still blocked
off. To feel in the midst of what could turn into, and most likely would, a
battle zone meant death and she wouldn’t make the same rooky mistake so many
others had. She took a moment to process what Malus was saying and shrugged. she
brushed a hand through her red streaked black hair stared up at the ceiling and
sighed. “It’s better than working for the government…I’ve got money, and
these people seem to be just as blood lusting as us…that’s good.†She looked
back down. “Haven’t met a group so well trained since…†she trailed off.
“the government sucks. this works with my nature much better than
working for those goody, save 'em all first, take as few casualties as possible
idiots"
Her jade eyes peered off into the distance for a brief
second, she opened up her other senses so as to not be caught off guard, as she
remembered her fallen family, those who had been part of her squad when her
father died and Malus had taken over their training. She sighed again. enough of
this. Now was not the time to get lost in the past and in her depression. There
would be plenty of time after the mission. Her green eyes grew to that shade
that had earned her the nick name Jade, hardened and focused once again. “how
bout you sir? How do you feel about it? the missions sure are more….interesting.â€Â
