Carmine was on the last few bites of the plate when it happened. Something huge, something massive appeared out of nowhere, raining down entry pods as it did, which he could hardly make out from the distance he was at. But it was there, and so were they.
"Ahhh, fuck!" Carmine shouted at nobody in particular, but his yell probably resounded all around the camp. He scrambled over to his helmet, nearly knocking the plate off the barrier as he did so. He slammed the helmet down onto his head, not even bothering to do anything special. He activated the radio within a split second of putting the helmet on, and hit the Commander's frequency. Just as he did so, another one came crashing from the sky in a ball of flames and landed somewhere in the city. "Goddammit!"
He hesitated a moment, having been shocked at seeing all this. "Malus, large Predator ship to the South! It's dropping pods, huge amounts of them! Another one came out of the atmosphere and crashed somewhere in the city, too! He was shouting into the radio, a slight hint of panic in his voice. The fear was there now, if ever. So much to the point where he'd called Malus by his name, instead of his title. A bunch of Predators revealing their ships and dropping down to the Earth was not exactly something to clear one's mind.
"They're dropping toward the forest, and there's a shitload of 'em..." he said, then looked up toward the sky. He could still see some of them, but there was a constant crashing sound in the distance, a boom. It was actually making him shake. They were far out of range of the sentry turrets, though. "Make that ten shitloads. If we've got any artillery to use against that fucking mothership, we need to get it out here! Mortars, rocket launchers, anything, we just need it ready!" He was keeping a smoother tone to his voice now, he was getting a grip on himself again.
He had a freakout because he had not been expecting it, but now he was just really excited. He would have just pulled out his 'nade launcher and fired all six shots at it, but he was too far. So they'd miss. But he knew what he could do. He pulled out the launcher, and pulled the lever on it. He checked the types he had in there... Four standard, two mines. He jogged out past the perimeter, spinning the cylindrical clip so that the mines were the first things there.
He fired one of the mines off to the side of the path, into some of the trees. He knew the bastards liked the forest, the woods, the jungle, anything with high trees. Whatever they could use. So if they came through there, they'd meet a mine. He did the same off in the other direction. They wouldn't kill a Yautja, but there was no way in hell he was going to let one sneak up on him.
He opened up one of the pouches of his combat webbing, and pulled out two more of the same type. He pulled the lever again, letting the clip swing out. He replaced the two missing 'nades, and clicked it back in place again. He repeated the process he had done before, only firing a bit further out and to the side of where he had before. Meaning he had covered the sides of the entrance, for the most part.
As he reloaded again, he placed two Electromagnetic Pulse grenades in the slots this time, and moved back to the perimeter. He didn't like taking chances. Especially with an unknown amount of Yautja running around the place. That could be bad. Very bad. He jogged up near the sentry turrets that were on standby, and was considering hitting the switch. They had what they were waiting for, after all. He decided against it, though. Only if he saw something coming on foot.
