The RPG Pre-Planning Thread

Wow, I was just about to lock this after I saw the title....
Tell you what, give me a few days/weeks and I'll get a basic plotline and stuff up, OK?

Remember, it should be able to bring lots of Preds, Xenos, Hybrids, and humans together.

What about a forrest type planet in which a coloney is seattling in when a xeno hive is disburbed but the planet happens to be a hunting ground for preds then u get the marines whom are trying to evac the colonists. Soound good?

Can newbies with no power post here? Because if they can I would like to offer up an idea. What if the setting was on some type of harsh planet that had been colonized?

I'm onboard with some of the ideas.

Leave it to you DD for making some amazing topic titles. I can't help but shake my head every time I see this damn thing. Let me know if you want any graphics, maps etc. for the rpg. I myself won't be joining in, just don't have the inclination to participate in rpgs anymore...

Shake you head? What, you have a problem with Carsex?

Maybe you could make a "movie poster" type design? It might be easier to throw out ideas once we know the setting/story/title, but that could be pretty cool. Thanks in advance.

In these RPG's, getting all the different factions involved can be a huge pain in the ass, especially now that we have so many different clans and hybrids and everything.

FInding a plausible reason for all the various combatants to be in one place is getting harder and harder.

I've been thinking about how to properly pull this off, when it hit me: There are goofy hybrids all over the place. There all all manner of aliens, marines, etc, and my character is essentially Hunter S. Thompson as a Predator.

For a change of pace, why not make this one completely ridiculous?

There are a group of Godlike extraterrestrials who abduct various Aliens/Predators/etc from around the galaxy, toss them onto a small planet, and proceed to watch them kill each other.

These beings could be the Space Jockeys, or some new species we've never seen before. I'm very, VERY tempted to have it be a bunch of stereotypical Roswell aliens filming a reality show.

The main thing is to get everyone in the story and playing without ten pages of setup.

Everyone wakes up on a small planet, and hijinks ensue.

Just as long as I don't wake up falling from the god damn sky I'm happy.

Sounds like a good old episode from Enterprise, but i like it. Sounds like fun.

What if the setting was on some planet where each group was on a different part of the planet. Something like Humans can be using one side of the planet, Predators use the other side of the planet, Xenomorphs another side and then one neutral area for the Hybrids.

^ The problem is, the point is to get everyone fighting as quickly as possible. There were people in the last RPG who ended up getting lost (I was one of them, and I wrote the damn thing) because the setting was so big and there was so much storyline involved.

I think this approach will hold people's attention better, as well as be new player-freindly.

Not that this is set in stone; if anyone has a better idea, feel free to chime in. We aren't anywhere NEAR start-time, so there's plenty of time to work on the story.

My suggestion is to make the setting on a space station. The station could be some kind of training facility with many different habitats located in dome modules connected with the main station. This way the setting could combine a vast amount of different enviroments in a relatively small area without appearing implausible.

It could be an abandoned corporate base for advanced military training or a research facility for specimen field tests in varios enviroments.
To pick up your idea about extraterrestrials using humans, yautja and xenomorphs for their amusement, the station could be also meant as a giant battle arena of unknown origin, a venue for some kind of AvP-Tournament.
Anyhow, i think using such a station would allow fast and diversified fights.

One of my ideas would be to have the planet change biomes every 10 posts or something, but that seems like it could get confusing. Your idea allows for multiple environments without the craziness, so maybe that would be better.

Can we do this where everyone has like a different territory on a planet? Yautjas get one side of the planet, us Xenomorphs get another side of it, Humans get one side and Hybrids get the other with the exception of a neutral side. That sounds more interesting.

It makes absolutely no sense. If all the species are segregated to different parts of the planet, how are fights supposed to break out? If they can't cross the boundaries, we're limited to same-species fights, and if they can cross the territories, then there's no point having territories to begin with.

What could be gained by setting it up like that? The idea is to get everyone in and blasting as quickly as possible.

The Aliens and the Predators are at a socker game and the Aliens are rooting for one team and the Preds for the other. That'll get everyone fighting pretty quickly.

Not a fan of the reality show idea, then?

The more i think about it, the more i think the show-idea is a funny one. If we really include this idea, we should also add some kind of moderator who makes lurid comments on the 'game' from time to time. Just like in real sport games. That would be completely ludicrous and wouldn't have any influence on the RPG itself, but it could be funny.
