The Strauses probably just wanted to differentiate their film from the last, by not re-using the exact same footage. Still, I think it was a waste of budget considering it was just a slightly darker & more violent version of the exact same scene.

I'm not going to lie, I thought it looked better in AvP but it still doesn't change the way I love AvPR. I wish they would have done it all themselved but make direct it very much like the first one only darker.

The reason why they re-filmed it (or didn't reuse the original one) was because they re-designed that ship's interior. The alter was alot darker and slightly different.
