So the painting that Giger's drone is based off - "Necronomicon IV," the 4th in a series of 5 (in which only the 4th and 5th look like Xenomorphs) - shares its name with a fictional Lovecraft book, and Giger called his own art book "Giger's Necronomicon."
Necronomicon means "image of the law of the dead," and Lovecraft described the original book to be a compilation of pre-human lore. So it makes sense that Giger would call his art book "Necronomicon," because it's both a compilation and shares its name with
the series of paintings that I mentioned earlier.
But why was the painting series itself called that? Did Giger ever give a particular reason, or did it just sound cool? Could it be that the Necronomicon Series is a compilation too? Or rather, it's telling a story of its own?
