If Ripley was a man

Anyone who has the Alien disc on dvd can recall that it was a key idea to make Ripley into a women. Now give me your opinions, do you think alien would of been as big of a hit, would there been the other movies or even AVP?

I firmly believe that it did rest on Ripley's shoulders, the two key points in the movie alien is that Ripley was a women, a women hero, which was not common for the time, and still really isn't, and that the alien monster was scary and believeable. I would even go far even to say that if Ripley would of been a man, then it would have lead to Alien being just another 'B' movie and to the downfall of the entire series.

Ripley as man, hmm, I've discussed this before, but I'll say it again. It would not be the same. And think about it. I don't think Anderson would have said that Ripley was sexy if a male Ripley was taking off his pants in the final scene with the legendary beast.

I personally think that the Alien franchise would have been nowhere hear as successful with a man taking the lead role. One of the main enticements about the series in my opinion was to see how Ripley would try to survive against the creatures each time, & how her character developed in each given situation. If it were a male lead, the character would've been nowhere near as interesting.

I think that it was a good idea to change it from a amle lead to a female.... The Alien Saga would'nt be the same without it....

No, not really, but seriously. The sight of a man taking off his pants at the final scene of ALIEN wouldn't make it JUST funny. It would scar my eyes for life. Seriously.

I just feel on the whole, the original wouldn't have had that same kick to it, if Ripley had indeed been a male lead. It would have detracted a lot of atmosphere and hardiness that she portrayed as the heroine.

I mean, put in in perspective, would you have felt as tense if it would have been Sly stallone Blasting away aliens with a mini-gun?

I think her character fully matured and really developed into something wonderfull in the 3rd movie, that was Sigourneys best performance in my opinion, dark, haggered and extremely resiliant.

Yep. Alot better than a knight in shining armor going to rescue a damsel in distress by a dragon. There have been too many movies about that in the past, but when Alien was viewed in theatres, it showed Rosie the Rivetter building a plane without the aid of men, also, it showed that women don't need rescuing by a man with huge muscels or someone with superb skills to slay their captors for they all show that women are weak individuals that needs a man to support them when it can go both ways.

Now would have become a hit if they used a guy instead of a woman? No it would not, for people would be there for the action and the creatures than the characters. That is, in MY oppinion.
