Are Aliens Mammals?

concretehunter, Yautja, 12 years ago

And if yes, Do they have nipples?

Deathdrop, Yautja, 12 years ago

No, and no.

-Bloo-, Yautja, 12 years ago

The closest thing they resemble on earth is an ant colony or bee hive, but you have to keep in mind that every term we've ever made up to classify animals (mammal, amphibian, reptile, etc.) apply strictly to organisms that evolved on Earth. Xenomorphs are about as far away from ants as you and I are to porn stars: we're similar and behave the same in the most basic definition of 'same' possible, but one participates far too much in reproduction, constantly oozes bodily fluids, is related to dicks and vaginas, and is just terrible to the universe.

^Way too much info there.

No Xenomorphs aren't mammals, they're more insect or reptile like. And on top of that they are not of Earth.

They don't even have reprodective organs. So no they don't have nipples. Besides that would be kinda creepy. Because if that was true imagine how the RPGs would go. Most of the time instead of fighting everyone would be posting:

"Hiss/snarls/growls/roars/ at(insert the name of one of the males on this site) for staring at his/her nipples."

That doesn't sound like fun.

They're a new lifeform on their own, they don't fit in any of our earthbound categories i think. Scientists would've to create an entire new taxom for them, probably.

I've even read quite some times Aliens are actually silicium-based lifeforms instead of carbon-based as life as we know, although i can't remember this beeing really proofed in the movies.

@ mebber: I do recall ash saying they are silicone based...

I AM BACK!

i think they resemble a bee hive.since there is a queen and there are workers.

Aliens are not mammals. This seems pretty simple to me.

alienxeno, Yautja, 12 years ago

death drop took my brain (crypto style) and read it (crypto style).he took the words out of my chest.

FireHunter, Yautja, 12 years ago

I find the fact that someone doesn't actually know the definition of "mammal" very disturbing..

Ok this raises a question, If we were to encounter a species from another planet we would clearly put them into the catagory of prokaryote (Without nucleus) or eukaryote (With nucleus). So i wondered if considering we would bring them into those two categorys (considering the variable of weather another races cell structure would contain a nucleus.) would we include them in the same family tree as other species's

Now i now what you're thinking.

No.

But please consider that both all life on earth and xenomorphs come from the same creator, The engineers (In the AvP universe). So we are technically related, And considering that the average living thing with an exoskeleton would not be able to support its own weight if enlarged to the size of a xenomorph i feel i have to assume that they have some form of bone structure inside there body to help them support their own weight.

With this assumption and the inclusion of a respratory system that functions with a tracea and lungs rather than the average insectoids stoma (suitable for smaller organisms due to the lack of oxygen required to remain functional) i have to say that they are more like our mammals than our insects or any other family withing the eukaryote classification.

So are Aliens Mammals? Maybe.

Science bitch.

Deathdrop, Yautja, 11 years ago

Damn.

But still, if the only similarity is THAT far back, it seems to me that classifications like "mammal" still wouldn't be helpful. Maybe "Mammal equivalent," but that's as close as they could get.

-Bloo-, Yautja, 11 years ago

That's true, but I wouldn't place myself in the same group as my neighbor's dog just because we were both conceived through live birth. Just because Xenomorphs and humans/mammals came from the same creator doesn't mean they can be classified as mammals - similar, yes, but similar in the way both ships and frogs have something to do with water.

Mebber, Yautja, 11 years ago

Nice comparison, Bloo.

Well, let's assume xenos are eukaryotes and have bones, i think that would make them vertebrates, not mammals. Even if they have, as you assume, a tracea and lungs, they wouldn't be mammals necessarily, as reptiles and birds have them too. And i'm not sure xenos really HAVE a respiratory system like that, it could be something completely different. Or they don't breathe like we do at all. That alien in Alien seemed just fine within vacuum, and the facehugger survived in the original atmosphere of LV426 as well. It even managed to keep Kane alive for a considerable amount of time after his helmet has been breached. How did it supplied Kane with the necessary oxygen after the helmet wasn't air-proof anymore? It must had the ability to filter or transform the toxic atmosphere, otherwise Kane would have suffocated. That would at least indicate a different, more multifunctional kind of respiratory system as we know.

And there are many factors involved. As said, even reptiles, birds and mammals are different classes. They might share some features, but they differ in other fields, so they're not put together. And xenos GREATLY differ in some fields from anything we've seen on earth.

But it could be all wrong from the start. The xeno has a cleary alien physiology and biochemistry - i mean, it contains molecular acid in its own metabolism. Stuff that eats through steel like a hot knife through butter. It's even possible their entire cell structure differs so greatly from anything on earth that they aren't true eukaryotes, or anything else encountered on earth. I think the only definite thing we can assume is that they're multi-cellular lifeforms.

i think they are supernatural......what?E.T was f@$#ing supernatural!all aliens in my opinion are supernatural.

jorgea, Yautja, 11 years ago

I don't think aliens are mammals.
