The main abilities & features possessed by the aliens remain primarily the same throughout each individual, regardless of what differing physical characteristics they may have due to the widely varying DNA of each of their hosts.
First of all, xenomorphs are incredibly powerful, able to lift a human or even a predator off their feet & toss them around like a rag doll. Despite their generally slim & frail looking physique, their muscles are capable of exerting an extreme amount of force if needs be, & they are capable of overpowering most prey they find. Certain creatures spawned from physically powerful hosts, such as "predaliens", are rumoured to have even greater physical strength than the rest of their brood.
Aliens are also incredibly fast, able to outrun a human with relative ease, & in the case of certain variations of the adult form, such as the "runner", spawned from a quadrupedal host, they can reach nearly cheetah speed when running flat out.
As far as the dominate physical features of the species, their main identifiable characteristics are their large elongated heads, their powerful inner jaws, & the large dorsal tubes or "spines" commonly running along the backs of most of the creatures. The head itself seems to act as an antenna, picking up calls & messages from other xenomorphs, these signals would more than likely be sent on a sonic frequency not capable of being heard by the ears of most creatures, so they could remain completely silent while sneaking up on unsuspecting prey. The sounds could also be used to detect prey itself, much in the same way that dolphins use echo location when hunting.
The inner jaw is also one of the aliens' most formidable weapons, & is usually what they use to finish off a victim. Powerful muscles are able to draw the second jaw back into the mouth with & hold it in a very high tension state for short periods of time, much like an archer drawing back his bow string in preparation for firing an arrow. At any given moment, the creature is capable of propelling the jaw forward with incredible force, enough to tear through flesh & shatter bone with ease. It is even capable of piercing a USCM combat helmet.
One of the more generally confusing aspects of the creatures is the purpose of their large dorsal growths. In general, there are 4 long tubes adorning the backs of most xenomorphs, with some also possessing a 5th spine-like appendage. There has been much debate over the use of these, & how they fit into the alien life cycle. The most logical answer in my opinion is that they are used to produce & house the resin which the alien hives are built of, & which also trap & cocoon hosts to be implanted with an embryo. All aliens born from bipedal hosts have been seen with this appendage, although a singular creature, spawned from a quadruped, did not possess them. One theoty is that it could have been simply because the duty of that single xenomorph was protecting an unborn queen until she had matured, & not the construction of a hive.
