Power Loaders

How do you think the power loader in Aliens works? I know there is a keypad on one of the arms but i dont think that controls all of it just the way the clamps or whatever they are move to grab stuff.
I always thought that as soon as the loader feels your leg or arm try to pull up it goes along with it. So would it be like motion sensitive or something?

Actually, I recall reading a very interesting article about this.
The Power Loader was, in fact, a fully functional machine. The one designed for Aliens did work on its own, though it was far too inefficient for any other purpose than filming. It moved using a combination of pressure sensors and hydraulics, though I believe it was disassembled after the movie was finished.
