Aight, I just watched Suicide Squad (extended cut apparently) and it wasn't bad, but you know what was bad? Leto's joker. This is just another case where I can't blame the actors for it not being great. Maybe a couple of them could have tried harder, but it was badly written and indulgently directed. After seeing all of it, I have no doubt in my mind that no amount of extra Joker scenes would have improved this movie, because the Joker was boring. I mean, he makes some dude kiss his ring, but then it doesn't squirt anything in his face? That's not the Joker, that's just edgy teenager Kingpin. Not even that. He had no presence, he was just... no one gave a shit about him. The movie tried to tell you that oooh it's the Joker ooooh everyone's scared, except they weren't, no one was scared, because all he did was jump off a bridge and then die in a fire without a second thought from anyone in power. He didn't do any Joker-like things, he laughed like his urethra was stinging, he was nothing.
It was also badly cut, a lot of it was just scenes thrown together with no chronology or coherence, just to make them BE THERE for character development, except the more they turned up, the less I cared about each character, especially the very obvious sacrificial character. The supercriminals themselves didn't have any sort of dynamic with each other, their individual talents were completely useless because they were only there to get swarmed by some black dudes and old ladies. And then esse goes to say that they're his new family and I'm like, dude, you just met them like 2 hours ago and your only interaction was that they pissed you off once, and then he sacrifices himself to save them and everyone instantly forgets he was there. Also the amount of times Deadshot was offered the same thing in exchange for I don't remember what and he then proceeded to accept every time, up until the last time, when his smart businessman mind finally caught up to the fact that it didn't matter because he was never gonna be a movie character after this one ever again...
I'd watch it again if someone really wanted to watch it with me, so I didn't dislike it like I did BvS.
