Nostromo/Weyland-Yutani question

i think they didnt know about them, but Ash who was under WY command could have reported it in, instructions could have been sent to him and only him to return the species. we can only speculate, the evidence is hard to interprete.

either way, the company acted quickly cuz they knew the potential of such a species.

i think they new aliens existid ( as seen in avp) but its unlickley that they new they were on lv426 tho

thers no stoping what cant be stopt
no killing what cant be killed.

I'm not sure, but I don't think they encountered the Xenos on purpose.

I know that they sent the Nostromo into space with an android, Ash, to bring back aliens for their bio-weapons division, but I don't know if the company knew xenos were on LV-426 before the Nostromo was sent out.

as far as i know no. mainly because the ship was returning from the run when they found the Derilect. so i think that was just by happenstance. although i think weylan yutani already knew that xenomorphs existed they just didnt know where to find them. and thats why they acted so fast to populate the place when the transmission of riply sent reached them telling them of strange cretures who infested, bursted out of chest, and became a horror not known.

but yea i think finding the place was just sure luck or bad luck as the case may be...

Hmm... maybe they did send them to recover Xenos, and Ash for that reason. Then that would... ahh... the crew of the Nostromo didn't know that, but they purposely made the Nostromo land there so that they would recover the Xenos for lab tests, but they knew the Nostromo's crew would say that they encountered the xenos and thought Wayland-Yutani would experiment them to find out what they were, but Weyland-Yutani had that allready planned.

Yes, you two have both got it. The company was aware of the aliens' existence because of the events in AvP; it was even in Mother's log to tell Ash to bring back lifeform, and in Aliens, Ripley said that her crew went out to the planet on company orders to get this "thing". Maybe, like Heyroglyphsarenice said, Weyland-Yutani sent the crew to space on a regular mission, with Ash the android there just in case they encountered Alien life. Maybe the planet they drilled for oil was believed by the corporation to be the home of the alien species, and, when the company was disappointed to find this was not true, they sent them on their way back to Earth. However, they picked up the signal from the Derelict ship and traveled there, with Ash, Mother, and the company in high hopes for Xenomorphs. Well I suppose they got what they hoped for.......

If you count P:CJ to be canon (I dont), then they did know, but I dont think that they did. I think that Ash informed them (Weyland/Yutani) about the wierd eggs, and they may have asked him to secure one for research.

as DD & AVPFREAK have noted, it has been hinted at that WY knew about the existense of aliens because of the events that transpired in AVP, as they clearly knew what they were sendind their crew after. Lex would have most likely reported the incident afterwards, why it took WY all those years to captitalise on the discovery is beyond me, also how thay knew to send them to Acheron I am not sure of either, unless they had picked up the Jockey's warning signal beforehand, that would explain alot

It's hinted that the company knew, so I think they were sent there on purpose. When Ash mentions the special deal with their contracts, I was put under the impression that any ship could find an alien and bring it back, but the Nostromo happened to be the unlucky one.
