^ Those are cartoon/game/comic strains created to add variety. As far as the movies are concerned, there's only one "type," it just happens to look a bit different depending on the host.

Eh the alien picks up trates from its host so slightly diffrent strains are made each time a face hugger gets ahold of a new creature. As far as I know some of them are also do to human tampering... but in the end drone are most popular because apparently we are easy to get ahold of lol and the queen is still the pure gene. Not shure but also isent she able to alter the genetics of the aliens herself to match there obsticals? >.>
