If you think about it logically - look at the comparison in size between the alien when it 'births' and the size of the dog - it would've been impossible for the alien to have been chestating inside of the dog.

No mate - the alien was the same size as the dog - there's no way it could have fit inside of it. That's why in the special edition, the alien comes from an OX which is much bigger.
