Sounds like another canon discussion, but I've got to agree with DW this time, Giger can talk about his thoughts and intentions as he created the look of the aliens, but he can't say anything authoritative about the aliens themselves. While he was the one responsible for the awesome-terrifying asthethics of the alien and the derelict, he had nothing to do with the movies plot or the substantial alien character itself, which was created by other authors and Ridley Scott.
The quoted wiki article itself refers to the "expanded universe" of alien, which means it includes informations of books, comics and videogames too. These sources often contradicts themselves and shouldn't be given the same significance like the original movie.
We should move away from this true/false kind of debate. In the end, the movie was made to entertain us, and there are very few actual facts about the xenomorph. Thats a good thing because it leaves plenty of space for our own imaginations, which are neither true nor false.
